Meet Lindsay Barrett
Lindsay brings a passion for literacy and learning to every resource she creates.
A longtime pre-K and elementary teacher and literacy specialist, Lindsay now works as a curriculum writer for educational publishers and as a contributing editor at We Are Teachers. Her experience helping students build strong reading, writing, and language skills inspires the resources she creates for classrooms today.
When she’s not writing, Lindsay can usually be found with a stack of books and a cup of coffee nearby. She enjoys gardening and exploring the woods near her home in Maine. Her preschool daughter once described her as “the knower of our house,” a title Lindsay proudly embraces thanks to her love of learning and sharing knowledge with others.
Her classroom experience and understanding of teachers’ needs help her create resources that are engaging, practical, and easy to use.
We asked Lindsay to share her ideas and priorities for creating educational resources.
When you’re creating resources, what do you always keep in mind?
I’ve taught countless kids in my career, but my own five kids’ voices are loudest in my head, and wow, are they snarky. My materials respect kids’ time and energy. They’re straightforward, engaging, and they’ll always build knowledge and vocabulary.
What can teachers expect every time they use one of your resources?
I’m a busy person and I know you are too. I’ve already spent my time meticulously checking that all the details line up, so that when you use one of my resources, you’ll be able to print and go!
